Environmental Stewardship

Many large energy users today are choosing "green" and sustainable energy options. Ameresco works in partnership with customers and communities to explore, nurture, and develop environmentally friendly solutions through sustainable building practices and renewable energy technologies.

Renewable Sources of Energy

From landfill gas to wind and solar power, Ameresco provides renewable energy solutions that allow organizations to capitalize on the most current energy technologies available. By coupling innovative financing arrangements with the latest clean sources of power, Ameresco offers affordable green solutions for current energy needs.

Ameresco is a recognized leader in the renewable marketplace and can advise customers in the design, construction and financing of their own renewable energy sources, or we can own and/or operate these facilities. Customers benefit from a reliable source of power that offers protection from volatile energy markets.

Ameresco's expertise includes developing landfill gas, solar, wind, geothermal, fuel cell, microturbine as well as combined heat and power (CHP) systems. Ameresco has a particular expertise in creating landfill gas-to-energy (LFGTE) projects. Utilizing the methane gas produced by landfills, these projects are an increasingly popular way to generate clean power. As well as providing a clean source of energy, LFGTE projects offer communities a number of benefits such as job creation, a reduction in odor emissions, and an improved tax base.

Sustainable Building Practices

There is a growing awareness today of the way buildings impact people's lives and the health of the planet. North America has historically posted the highest per capita energy use in the world. Office buildings are major consumers, whether the energy is used primarily for heating (in the North) or cooling (in the South). The U.S. Green Building Council, under contract to the U.S. Department of Energy, Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Office of Building Technology, State and Community Programs, has established guidelines for green and sustainable design practices. The goal is to foster healthy, environmentally responsible workplaces.

Sustainable design and construction practices can significantly reduce or eliminate the negative impact of buildings on the environment and occupants in five primary ways:

Ameresco has incorporated many of these sustainable ideas in our daily engineering and construction practices to promote whole-building, integrated practices.
